THE CHURCH:
The concept of union in love lies in the Greek word for Church itself: The word ecclesia means "assembly" or "convocation."
St. Cyril of Jerusalem (4th C.) writes, "It is appropriately called the Church [Ecclesia], for it summons everyone and gathers
them all together." Likewise, St. Irenaeus of Lyons (2nd C.) states that the Church "is God's gathering, which God, i.e. the
Son Himself, assembled through Himself." God gathered together those who loved Him, around the Holy Table of the
Mystery; that is the Church. The Church is God's love toward people, among God's people. St. John Chrysostom says, "So
that…He might show His love for us, He allowed those who wished not only to see Him but to touch and feel Him, and to
consume Him." The nature of the Church is Eucharistic." That sense is also found in the Greek word leitourgia, i.e. common
matter, common service, something done by all of the people. The Liturgy is the common matter of love, the love Christ's
Disciples had for Him, the love that brought them into community not only with their Teacher, but with one another.

The notice:
The Sunday before the Holy Day of Transfiguration, August 17, after the Liturgy, we shall bless fruit.
AUGUST 19th on Tuesday, THE HOLY TRANSFIGURATION OF OUR LORD, GOD AND SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST.
Divine Liturgy we will have at 9:00 a.m. After Liturgy will be the blessing of grapes and other fruits.
AUGUST 28th on Thursday, THE DORMITION OF THE MOTHER OF GOD.
Divine Liturgy we will have at 9:00 a.m.
"And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, He took Peter and John and James, and went
into a mountain to pray. And as He prayed, the fashion of His countenance was altered, and His raiment was
white and glistening. And, behold, there talked with Him two men, which were Moses and Elias: Who appeared
in glory, and spake of His decease which He should accomplish at Jerusalem. But Peter and they that were
with Him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood
with Him. And it came to pass, as they departed from Him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be
here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for Moses, and one for Elias, for he knew not what he said. While
he thus spoke, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them; and they feared as they entered into the cloud .
And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is My beloved Son: hear Him" (KJV, Luke 9:28-35).

Загальне поняття, що кличе до об`єднання любови лежить в самому грецькому слові Церква — Екклесія, що
значить «збір», «скликання».
св. Кирилл Єрусалимський (IV вiк) пише, — Це є підхоже названо Церква, тому, що, всіх скликає і збирає разом». Те
саме у св. Ірінея Ліонського (II вік): Церква «є зібрання Боже, яке Бог, т. є. Сам Син зібрав через Себе Самого». Бог
зібрав тих, хто любив Його, навколо священної трапези Таїнств — це і є Церква. Церква — це є любов Божа в
людях, в народі Божому. «Щоб... показати Свою любов до нас, — говорить Золотоуст, — Він дав бажаючим не
тільки бачити Його, але і доторкатись і відчувати Його і споживати Його». «Природа Церкви Євхаристійна». Це ж
розуміння лежить в грецькому слові «літургія», що, значить - загальна справа, спільна служба.
Літургія — це спільна праця в любови учнів Христових, яка привела їх до спільности не тільки з Вчителем, але і
один із одним.
